10 Things I Wish I Could Say Out Loud

One of the things I love most about writing is knowing everything my characters are thinking. The world would be a much more simple, honest place if we could read each other’s thoughts.

In the spirit of my current train of thought, here are ten things I’d like to be able to say to ten people right now.

  1. The writers of Bones – WTF are you doing, people? Half the time the old laugh out loud humor and endearing characters flicker, but the rest of the time I’m trying to swallow the vomit brought on by your cheesy, sugary sweet dialogue. You had a great show, with one of the best ensemble casts I’ve seen in years. If this season is going to be it, try to go out on a high note.
  2. Andy Roddick – You break my heart, so I can’t even imagine the toll the last few years has taken on your own. I want to see you win Wimbledon, but even if you don’t, I’ll always admire your good natured grit.
  3. The Pope – You have so much power, money, and influence. Please stop wasting it.
  4. My grandfather –You made my world a more confident, loving place for thirty years. I’m sorry I wasn’t there to say goodbye.
  5. A friend who’s hurting – Life is what you make it. All love isn’t meant to last, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t real. You have friends and family who adore you. Call me anytime.
  6. My friend Trieb – You should have let me tackle that girl when we were 21. She deserved it. And that might have been the only chance I’ll ever have to get in a real fight. Just sayin.
  7. This guy – I like you. Hearing from you makes my day. I’d really, really like to kiss you again.
  8. My agent – Thank you for believing in me. I won’t let you (or myself) down.
  9. Sumer, my college roommate – One of my biggest regrets is not being as good a friend to you as you were to me. I miss our sister friendship.
  10. My critique partner Denise – You’ve become an indispensable friend, and I don’t know how I would have gotten through the past year without you. Whether its drinking too much and talking about men, encouraging each other through first drafts, revisions, and queries, or chatting until two in the morning about nothing at all, it’s never a waste.

There you go. Who would you like to have an honest conversation with today? What’s stopping you?

  1. I love, love, love this. Thank you.

Things I’d like to say to Andy Roddick: Your wife is hot.

    • I bet Andy Roddick is aware of how insanely hot his wife is. Maybe he never gets tired of hearing it, though. 😉

      And I love you too.

  2. Love this post. 🙂

I totally agree with #1 — hubs and I were just saying exactly the same thing while we (tried to) watch last night. I’m afraid some shark-jumping has occurred… *sigh*

    • I’m sad about this. It was a great show. Sigh.

  3. Waaaah! No. 4. *mops eyes*

Lovely post. Thanks for telling us.

    • Aw, sorry Patty. I can actually type it without crying now, so I’m moving forward.

  4. Dude… I didn’t have bail money. Letting you a-salt her was enough!

    • Let’s just agree that you should never, ever say that aloud again. Deal?

  5. I love this. Awesome post. One thing I’d love to say aloud “be polite to secretaries, even if you are angry at their employers.”

    • Thanks! And you’re totally right. I would expand it to all customer service reps, after being one for 5 years!
